Fire damaged an Owens Corning fiberglass insulation plant at Albany, New York on 21 November 2007 although officials investigating the outbreak said there was no indication it was suspicious. The plant is due to lay off workers because of the closure of a production line. The fire broke out around 6:30 a.m. in a roof ventilation unit at the plant and took at least three hours to extinguish. No injuries were reported and workers were not evacuated, a company spokesman said. Four fire companies responded to the fire after the plant“s emergency response team was unable to put out the blaze. The plant employs 360 workers, who make fiberglass insulation for residential, commercial and industrial applications. Because of a downturn in residential home building, one of two production lines at the plant will be shut down at the end of 2007, with lay-offs projected for up to 160 workers, company spokesman Jason Saragian said.
