7 May 1998: OCMI S.p.A., the Italian producer of vial ampoule making and other glass forming machinery, announced that it purchased the majority share of Moderne Mecanique Sas on 1 April 1998. Schott Glas said it will maintain a minority interest in the company, which will allow it to continue its strategy of focusing and strengthening its core business sector. Michele Gusti, Managing Director of OCMI, has been appointed President of Moderne Mecanique, Christian Leclere General Manager, and Sergio Corno Sales Director. Moderne Mecanique, a French company based in Chelles, is a world leader in ampoule and tubing converting machines. OCMI S.p.A. will become the main reference for glass tube converting machine supply, by taking on worldwide sales of OCMI and Moderne Mecanique products. The two companies will maintain their production facilities, and after-sales assistance and spare parts supplies will be handled in both Milan and Chelles. The new structure will contribute towards meeting customer requirements of both companies. The merger will, in the near future, result in the complete synergy of OCMI and Moderne Mecanique in ampoule, vial and tube converting machine production. Moderne Mecanique employs 46 workers, and reported a turnover of FFr 30 million for 1997.
