Situated in the Shanghai Expo Culture Park, along the banks of the Huangpu River, the Shanghai Grand Opera House is not merely an emblematic cultural building.
The Opera House spiralling outward from the public lobby, resembles a gently unfolding Chinese fan. Its immense white staircase ascends skyward, extending like the handle of a fan, elegant yet simple, lending the structure a dynamic beauty and embodying the distinctive aesthetic of the East.
The curtain wall of Shanghai Grand Opera House is entirely made of tempered glass from NorthGlass. It mainly uses multi-layer ultra-clear heat soaked thermally tempered laminated IGUs. These units are predominantly composed of four-layer laminated IGU, with the largest panels reaching nearly 13 metres in height and incorporating eight layer super-large, thick laminated insulating glass.
The fan shape holds a beautiful symbolism in traditional Chinese culture, presenting an eye-catching design that slowly unfolds along the Huangpu River, offering an international aesthetic while showcasing a Chinese ambiance.
