Nitto Boseki Co. Ltd., a Japanese textile spinning company, plans to raise the domestic wholesale price of glass yarn by 20% as of 1 April 2004, it was reported on 18 March 2004. The company holds a 70% share of the Japanese market for glass yarn. The demand for glass yarn increased sharply in the autumn of 2003, mainly from digital appliance makers. The supply of glass yarn has been falling since October 2003. Nitto Boseki, which is currently working at full capacity, is considering boosting its glass yarn output by installing additional production facilities. Glass yarn is a type of continuous glass fiber used in various products including glass cloth and as insulation for electric cables Established in 1923, Nitto Boseki has a paid-in capital of JPY 19.6 billion (USD 183.13 million/EUR 149.16 million ) and employs 2,300.
