Latest technology for hybrid furnace at Gerresheimer’s Lohr plant

Gerresheimer is currently rebuilding the glass melting furnace at its Lohr plant in Germany, embracing the latest technology with the installation of a hybrid furnace from HORN Glass Industries.

What exactly is a hybrid furnace?
The oxyfuel hybrid furnace is a revolutionary advancement in glass melting technology for lime soda glass large-scale furnaces. It combines traditional combustion with a highly increased proportion of electric power of up to 50 percent. Additionally, the overall energy efficiency is improved as less air needs to be pre-warmed and the thermal heat loss is reduced.

Some key benefits

  • Higher electricity share – reduction of gas consumption from 80 to 50 percent
  • Lower energy consumption – higher overall energy efficiency
  • Reduced NOx emissions – minimizing nitrogen oxide emissions
  • Lower emission values – reducing CO₂e emissions by up to 40 percent

Gerresheimer, is committed to pioneering advancements that drive sustainability and excellence in our glass manufacturing processes. The installation of the hybrid furnace at the Lohr plant marks a significant milestone in our journey towards greener, more efficient production practices and achieving ambitious sustainability targets.
