The 22nd International Congress on Glass, to take place 20-25 September 2010 in Bahia, Brazil, will bring together important professionals in the fields of science, technology and production of glass, including manufacturers, suppliers, engineers, researchers and students in a series of talks and poster presentations covering a number of topics related to glass science and technology. Special focus will be given towards discussions on issues concerning sustainability and the environment. Topics of the conference will include: Glass science – structures and surfaces; structural relaxation, glass transition, Kauzmann catastrophe and entropy; crystal nucleation, growth, liquid phase separation; glass formation and vitrification; glass properties (mechanical, chemical, thermal, rheological, optical, electrical, etc.); bioactive glasses; optically active glasses; ionic and electronic conductor glasses; fracture-resistant glasses; Sol-gel glasses; non-oxide glasses; metallic glasses; hybrid glasses; glass-ceramics; glasses with new functionalities; and new glasses. With regards to technology and glass production, presentations will deal with: raw materials and glass components; refractories for glass melting; melting and forming of glass; production, transformation and coatings in glass; energy savings in the production of glass; energy savings in the application of glass and CO2 balance; environment, recycling and waste management; life cycle analysis (LCA) in the processes of glass and products; new applications of glass; education in glass science and technology.
