In his inaugural address at the Glass India 2001 Exhibition & Conference, organised by the All India Glass Manufacturers` Association, Shri Omar Abdullah, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry congratulated the industry on the fact that glass and glassware exports from the country had increased three-fold in the last six years but also urged glass firms to enhance product and market diversification in order to further exploit global markets. Shri Abdullah acknowledged the problems facing the Indian glass industry, and promised the full cooperation of the Department of Commerce in resolving specific export-related problems. He said the Indian government was intent on removing all the bottlenecks and constraints facing Indian exporters.
