Belgian glass manufacturer Glaverbel SA, part of the world“s largest glassmaker, Japanese Asahi Glass Co. Ltd, will cut 99 jobs from a total 270 in its factory in Hainaut, southwestern Belgium, by end-2005. However, the firm will also invest EUR 20 million to set up a new production line at its Seneffe fireproof construction glass plant in 2006, said Glaverbel spokesperson Marie-Ange Dhondt on 19 June 2003. Most of the job cuts will be achieved through natural wasteage. The company cited the stagnation of the fireproof glass market at the beginning of 2003, adding that investments will be made to set up a new production line for large-surface glass applications.
