The Glaverbel Czech Group, uniting 21 Czech glassmakers, showed preliminary unaudited sales of CZK 11 billion in 2000, up 17% from the previous year, Glaverbel Czech spokeswoman Alena Janotkova told Interfax. That makes 2000 the group“s most successful year ever. The glass group“s exports were worth CZK 8 billion in 2000, up 20% on the year before, she says, and representing 72% of total sales. Glaverbel Czech (GC), the group“s parent company, is the largest flat glass producer in Central and Eastern Europe. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Belgium“s Glaverbel, Europe“s leading producer of flat glass, and had preliminary unaudited sales of CZK 7 billion last year, up 20 % on the previous year, says Janotkova. Exports accounted for CZK 5 billion of GC“s overall sales, up 26% over 1999. The parent company“s pre-tax profit reached CZK 1 billion, and its net profit CZK 915 million in 2000. State investment incentives and the launch of low-E glass production contributed to the group“s improved 2000 results, says Janotkova.
