The 2010 edition of the glasstec trade fair will also offer a high-quality comprehensive supporting programme aimed at architects, construction engineers, faade designers and related professions. The special show glass technology live with the motto Energy Efficiency with Glass, and organized by Professor Stefan Behling, senior partner at Foster and Partners architects“ office, and professor at the Institute of Building Construction at the University of Stuttgart, will deal with the potential of glass as a construction material. Innovations will be presented that demonstrate how glass can contribute to resource saving by using intelligent insulation, light guiding or energy generation with solar applications. The Innovative Glass Applications in Architecture lectures – in English and German -, as part of the glass technology live symposium, on 30 September, will be of particular interest to architects and designers. Renowned companies such as Zaha Hadid Architects and Behnisch Architekten (Energy.Design.Synergy) will present their current projects and creative concepts. The new Faades Centre will focus on energy-efficient building envelopes and address faade designers, construction engineers and architects. An overview of current developments in faade technology will be provided by well-known companies, German associations and the Augsburg University. Innovative faade mockups with building-integrated photovoltaics and multifunctional elements will also be on display. The Architectural Congress will take place on 1 October, and is organized by Professor Ulrich Knaack from the Delft University of Technology and Ostwestfalen-Lippe University, along with the North Rhine-Westphalian Chamber of Architects. Speakers will include Massimiliano Fuksas from Rome, Professor Manfred Hegger from Darmstadt and the UN Studio from Amsterdam will inform about topics such as Canyons of Glass, Transparency and Sustainability and Texture of Transparency. Other themes will be Bio-inspired Architecture, Glass and Climate Design and Simplicity and Architectural Quality. All presentations will be in English and German. The Architecture+Glass Innovation Prize, awarded for innovative glass products and project-related solutions that are of particular architectural quality thereby fulfilling both functional and design requirements will be presented at glasstec 2010, on 28 September, by the architectural magazines AIT and xia in cooperation with Messe Dsseldorf.
