Glass for Europe elects Dr Reha Akcakaya as new chairman

Glass for Europe, the trade association of Europe’s manufacturers of building, automotive and solar-energy glass, elected Dr Reha Akcakaya Chairman of the Board of Directors of Glass for Europe during its last General Assembly.

Dr Akcakaya, President of the Flat Glass Group of Sisecam, takes over the position of Chairman from Mr Houchan Shoeibi from Saint-Gobain. He knows very well Glass for Europe since he has served as Vice-chairman during the last 4 years. Sisecam is an industrial group operating on an international scale in the fields of glass and chemicals production. It ranks among the top 5 flat glass companies in the world and Europe. With its manufacturing site in Targovishte, Bulgaria, Sisecam is still to date the largest greenfield investor in Bulgaria.
Dr Akcakaya is an engineer and glass scientist by academic training and brings to his new role over 18 years of experience and knowledge of the world of flat glass. During the last decade, he worked as Trakya automotive glass plant Manager and was promoted Director of Automotive Glass in 2009. Since January 2014 he has been appointed as President of the Flat Glass Group of Sisecam.
During the General Assembly, Mr Christian Quenett, Head of Architectural Glass Europe of NSG Group, was elected Vice-Chairman of the Board. The Board of Directors is also composed of Mr Philippe Bastien, General Manager Europe, Building & Industrial Division of AGC Glass Europe, and Mr Houchan Shoeibi, President of Saint-Gobain Sekurit.
