Glass Fibre Europe: Calls to strengthen the EU Trade Defence Toolbox

Together with other industries active on trade policy within Aegis Europe, Glass Fibre Europe has addressed a joint letter to the European Commission ahead of the upcoming Council Summit, reiterating the urgent need to strengthen the European Union’s Trade Defence toolbox.

At a time of increasing global market distortions and persistent overcapacities across industrial value chains, it is essential that the EU equips itself with more effective and responsive trade defence instruments to safeguard the competitiveness of European industry.

In the letter, industry outlines three key priorities:

  1. Reinforcing DG Trade resources
  2. Improving the safeguards instrument
  3. Addressing overcapacities with a new instrument

These measures are critical to ensure that Europe’s trade defence framework remains fit for purpose in an increasingly challenging global trading environment.
