Gimav, the Italian Association of Glass Machinery and Accessories Manufacturers, a part of FAI (the Italian Federation of Industrial Associations), and Telecom Italia have signed an agreement to build a private telecommunications network called “Executive”. The initiative, linked to an agreement reached between the Small Industry Board of Confindustria (the Italian Manufacturers“ Association) and Telecom Italia, will allow for rationalisation and optimisation of the flow and cost of domestic and international calls generated by commercial and manufacturing businesses which are FAI members. The private network will be based on the use of an “intelligent“ communications network and will guarantee high speed transmission, simplicity and high quality communication by utilising a shortened telephone numbering system, as well as flexibility and a wealth of services. The FAI, which has its head office in Milan and has been part of Confindustria since its foundation in 1945, represents more than 600 firms spread throughout Italy with production units and distribution in different countries in Europe as well as outside the continent. According to the Federation, the results of a feasibility study showed that the synergy generated by its members in participating in the private network will lead to considerable reductions in total costs. “The strong propensity towards exports by member firms has been confirmed from data collected in a study by FAI and Telecom Italia”, Umberto Maltagliati, general director of the Federation, pointed out. “Overall consumption by businesses which have shown a real interest in participating in the private network allows for forecasting optimisation of costs for international calls equal to a 25% discount for each of these industries.” Fabio Meacci, director, Business Clients Milano at Telecom Italia, stated: “Support for the private network will permit FAI members to gain advantages in the increasingly strategic sector of telecommunications. These advantages are immediately measurable in economic savings on calls but can be viewed in terms of the highest competitive efficiency attainable, and/or new organisational implementations made possible from the development of telecommunication applications which Telecom will further shape, in the form of consulting, for all FAI members.”
