GIMAV launches ESG project to support members towards sustainability

To better understand and adopt the ESG regulations applicable to the sector, the Italian Association of Glass Processing Machines and Accessories Suppliers – GIMAV – in collaboration with the Rödl & Partner law firm, has launched a facilitation and change-acceleration project for its Member Companies.

GIMAV is positioning itself as the first Association in the sector to adopt a structured approach to sustainability. The project is aptly named ESG, which not only means Environmental, Social and Governance, but also embodies the Association’s personalized concept: Evoluzione Sostenibile GIMAV (GIMAV Sustainable Evolution).

The project was unveiled in Milan during the Welcome Day, an itinerant road-show leading companies toward Vitrum25, the international exhibition dedicated to the glass industry. Through this initiative, GIMAV is committed to support companies in complying with ESG regulations and making the association more attractive to new members, focusing on generating a positive impact on the territory as its key value.

The ESG regulatory framework is becoming increasingly stringent and complex, with new directives such as the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), which introduces reporting obligations for a growing number of companies starting in 2025. Additionally, the CSDDD (Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive) addresses supply chain management and risk assessments across the entire value chain, along with new reporting obligations related to diversity, gender pay gap, whistle-blowing and ESG ratings required by financial institutions. These regulations call for concrete actions such as risk analysis, stakeholder mapping, KPIs definition, and corporate policies implementation.

GIMAV offers its members collective actions and individual support through facilitated consultations for specific actions that need to be implemented at corporate level. The project outlines several key milestones leading up to Vitrum25, where a major stakeholder engagement event will be held to showcase the achievements. This journey will include training and information sessions, the creation of communication content, and the involvement of Member Companies—especially the more structured ones—to actively contribute and share experiences.

More specifically, the project includes a detailed calendar of activities that will unfold over the 2024 to 2025 biennium, such as: training and awareness-raising sessions for the board and top management of member companies; stakeholder engagement; ESG measurement and reporting; supply chain due diligence.

“We are convinced that sustainability is a strategic factor for the future,” said GIMAV President Dino Zandonella Necca. “That is why we invite all Member Companies to join this journey, contributing to the creation of a virtuous model for the entire supply chain. A sustainable future is a challenge we can win together. Sustainable Evolution is not just a compliance process but an opportunity to turn ESG challenges into competitive advantages, promoting the central role of the glass industry in the circular economy.”
