Gimav, the Italian Association of Glass Machinery and Accessories Manufacturers, represents 66 companies, 50 involved in the flat glass industry, 16 in the hollow and pressed glass industry. During the year, it will concentrate its activity in two main fields: exhibitions and EC regulations. As regards participation in international glass fairs, Gimav, together with ICE, the Italian Trade Commission, had a representative stand at the Glass and Ceramic Show “96 in Hanoi, Vietnam in March, and has planned a collective participation with about 400 sq. m. at the China Glass “96 show in Beijing from 25-28 June. At Vitrum “95, Gimav invited delegations from Vietnam and China to prepare the field for these two events. A collective stand will also be set up at Glastec “96, in Dsseldorf, Germany from 22-28 October, where Gimav will occupy almost an entire pavilion. For the Glastec show, Gimav is negotiating with the organisers in order to obtain favourable conditions for its members, and to get an overall guarantee about the prices of services requested during the show in advance, so as to avoid the surprise of high extra costs once the exhibition has started. Gimav is also carrying out a survey among its members to target other glass events around the world. As far as EC regulations are concerned, the four proposals for float glass norms coordinated by the Italian Committee (grinding, drilling, washing and laminating) have obtained the approval of the Technical Committee. After drawing up the final version, the four projects will be delivered to CEN in Germany for final approval. Gimav“s board of directors has expressed its satisfaction for the conclusion and good results of the working groups. Gimav also announced it has published a table of tariffs and conditions that its members working in the hollow glass sector will apply to clients for services and assistance; working on communicating new regulations about patents to members. From 1 April 1996, it will be possible to guarantee patent coverage in the 15 countries of the EU with deposit of the patent in one EU member state.
