US soda ash producers are deriving some comfort from the way in which the antidumping duties imposed by the European Commission are to be applied. Lobbying has resulted in reductions in the duties. The 14.3% originally applied to FMC has been cut to 8.9%. North American Chemical will pay 7.1%, Solvay Minerals 6.2%, Asahi Glass 5.5%, RP 5.3% and General Chemical 2.5%. Tg Soda Ash is exempted. The Commission will review the situation early in 1997.
