Fuyao Group Glass Industries Co Ltd said that the US Department of Commerce issued a preliminary decision to cut the anti-dumping rate levied on imported glass windshields from the Chinese firm between September 2001 and March 2003. The cut sees the tariff reduced from 11.8% to 0.13%. The company, China“s leading windshield producer, said anti-dumping tariffs paid during the period will be recovered if the levy is set below 0.5% of the final tariff, to be announced in four months. In December 2003, the United States Court of International Trade ordered the US Department of Commerce to review the anti-dumping case filed against Fuyao Group and several other Chinese glass makers. PPG Industries Inc, Apogee Enterprises Inc and Safelite Glass Corp filed a joint petition with the US Department of Commerce and the US International Trade Commission in February 2001, alleging the Chinese manufacturers had caused them material harm by exporting auto replacement glass windshields at unfairly low prices.
