As part of its “Project Enterprise” programme, Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd Group (F&N) is investing MYR 23.5 million in new IT infrastructure . To be carried out over 2 years, the programme launched 21 May 2003 was proposed in order to enable the group to maintain its competitive edge in each of its three principal businesses in Malaysia, said chief executive officer Tan Ang Meng,. Talking to press, he said the project would standardise processes and technologies across the group“s soft drink, dairies and glass businesses and consequently maximise synergies and help the group meet market demands. He said the project was part of its MYR 65 million capital expenditure. F&N also signed an agreement on 21 May 2003 with SAP Malaysia Sdn Bhd as the main technology solution provider, Sunway Computer Services and Deloitte Consulting to help them implement the project. Asked on how the IT investment will help the company, Ang gave an example of using the new system to reduce inventory levels, enabling the company to produce the right products at the right time. This would improve the company“s cash flow, he added. Tan said more than 90% of the group“s revenue came from its operations in Malaysia. “It is always our aspiration to become a regional Food and Beverage player, and we are making progress. So far, we have plants in China and Vietnam. We are looking at enhancing our business more to the South Asia and North Asia region,” he said. He acknowledged, however, that it would not be an easy task.
