As the European Parliament’s ENVI Committee discussed the draft report on the Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA), FEVE is calling for an ambitious framework that delivers both industrial competitiveness and decarbonisation.
FEVE puts forward six targeted recommendations to strengthen the proposal:
- Keep glass as a strategic sector
- Clarify that faster permitting provisions apply to both existing and new installations
- Expand the scope of industry decarbonisation projects
- Allow for flexible designation of industrial manufacturing acceleration areas
- Reduce the cost burden of “Buy European” requirements
- Adopt a granular approach to the sectoral expansion of lead markets
The Industrial Accelerator Act is a step in the right direction, but it must form part of a broader European strategy to tackle high electricity, bio-methane and carbon costs, while securing access to high-quality cullet.
