The European Commission presented its proposals on the review of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), the fallback benchmarks and the Electrification Action Plan.
The European container glass industry is investing, innovating and deploying solutions to decarbonise, with 150+ decarbonisation and innovation projects already underway across Europe.
According to FEVE, for the transition to succeed, Europe’s climate and energy policy framework must:
- Reflect sector-specific realities and differentiated decarbonisation pathways.
- Create the right enabling conditions, including affordable low-carbon energy, timely infrastructure deployment and effective carbon leakage protection.
- Support electrification while maintaining a technology-neutral approach that enables multiple pathways to decarbonisation.
Carlo Pirrone, Secretary-General of FEVE (The European Container Glass Federation), said, “We need to be pragmatic and technology-neutral, provide effective carbon leakage protection and ensure that the EU-ETS evolves in sync with the needs of our sector and with market realities.”
