11 June 1998: The European Commission said it had approved the acquisition by Elf Atochem, part of France“s Elf Aquitaine, of a 50% stake held by Rohm and Haas in their polymer joint venture AtoHaas. The European Union“s competition watchdog said that the deal would not result in any increase in Elf Atochem“s share of the organic and acrylic glass (also known as plexiglas and altuglas) markets. It also noted the presence of strong competitors such as Veba/Degussa, BASF and ICI.
