Estonia“s car window manufacturer Elvex, a subsidiary of French parent Saint-Gobain, has opened a new EKr 70 million car window plant at Elva, one of the largest investments this year in South Estonia. The new plant is expected to double the turnover of Elvex in the next few years, said Andi Kasak, the manager of Elvex. Elvex is the only plant in the region that makes both side and windscreens for around 200 different car makes. “The number of different side screen models is over one thousand,” said Kasak. “This means that the plant must have a very good command over the technological processes.” Elvex makes car windows only for the market of spare parts. 99.9% of the side windows and 95% of windscreens are exported. The construction of the new plant that is 5,000 square metres large created 30 new jobs. Elvex launched production in Estonia in 1991.
