The US automotive product company Donnelly Corp. plans to reduce the number of suppliers of raw materials for its prismatic mirrors, trim products and modular windows from 300 to 100 over the next five years. The decision to reduce suppliers is motivated by pressure to lower costs and improve the quality of parts. The cost savings, increased efficiency and augmented quality, supported by altering the number of suppliers and their respective manufacturing processes is reportedly aimed at ensuring Donnelly“s survival beyond the Year 2000.
