Dubai based Crystal Arc, which produces luxury crystal goods, is to set up an AED 20 million plant in Jebel Ali to manufacture handcrafted crystalware and artifacts. “We are poised to move to the next level in crystal objets d“art through the use of the world“s best technology and expertise of artisans,” said Mustansir Saifuddin, managing director. “The new technology will allow us to create a new range of coloured products, moving away from conventional clear crystals.” The company claims its fused glass technology allows up to six colours to be fused into glass simultaneously, creating a new range of crystal products. The new, 5,575 square meter plant will integrate all key areas, including glass bending, fusing, architectural glass, sun blasting and acid etching for the construction industry. Crystal Arc“s immediate expansion plans include launching a retail outlet in Abu Dhabi in October 2004. In Dubai, it has consolidated plans to launch a series of showrooms, starting with a first one near the Fourth Interchange on Shaikh Zayed Road. The company“s main showroom, Eons, is in Dubai. Its products are also sold through Gulf Greetings outlets in the UAE and at the Abu Dhabi Duty Free. They are also available through agents in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Oman. Crystal Arc was set up in 2001 by Faisal Seddiq M. Samea Al Mutawa and Saifuddin, with six craftsmen. It currently operates from a 3,500 square meter factory, with a workforce of 135, including 108 craftsmen.
