Croatian pharmaceutical glass packaging manufacturer Piramida was granted an ISO 14001 environmental management certificate on 23 October 2003. The certificate was issued by Swiss verification, testing and certification company Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS), which also granted Piramida a quality certificate EN ISO 9001 in 2002. Piramida has invested EUR 1.5 million (USD 1.8 million) over the past year and a half and has rebuilt its production facilities, added a quality control laboratory and invested in information technology and sterile facilities to pack products, Piramida chief executive officer Vedran Vilovic said. Piramida exports 90% of its products to Russia, Poland, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro, Macedonia, Italy and France. The certificates will help the company to enter new markets. Croatian companies will need the quality standards to operate in the European market in four or five years, when Croatia joins the European Union, said Nadan Vidosevic, the president of the Croatian Chamber of Economy . The chamber is the first Croatian institution to be granted an ISO 9001 quality certificate, Vidosevic added.
