It has been reported that in the first six months of 1996, glass production was down at Portuguese company Crisal (Cristais de Alcobaca). The decline has been attributed to the installation of a new furnace and machinery maintenance during the period although Crisal states that the results of such investments will be reflected in year-end production figures for 1996. However, the crystal production for which Crisal is renowned worldwide has shown encouraging figures for the first half. The company“s crystal products are especially well received in the US and UK markets.
