Crimean Soda Plant, Ukraine“s largest producer and exporter of soda ash finished 2000 with profits of UAH 26,541,000 versus UAH 22,989,000 at the end of 1999. Sales were up 22.8% to UAH 212,873,000 at the end of 2000 compared to 1999. The plant actively pursued foreign markets last year in an attempt to conduct direct export deliveries. The share of direct export deliveries in the plant“s sales volume last year was 30%. In 2000, the Crimean Soda Plant increased its production of soda ash by 25.9% compared to 1999, to 515.5 thousand tons (100% without potash). However, the profitability of the Crimean Soda Plant declined to 19.2% in 2000 from 23.4% in 1999. The Crimean Soda Plant produced 89% of the soda ash made in Ukraine in 2000. It is located in the Sivash free economic zone and uses the tax breaks provided to enterprises in the zone.
