CertainTeed: Massachusetts home boosts energy efficiency with Apollo® Solar Roofing System

An existing Massachusetts home becomes more energy efficient with CertainTeed’s Apollo® Solar Roofing System installed by Residential Exteriors.

A Massachusetts home becomes more energy efficient with CertainTeed’s Apollo® Solar Roofing System installed by Residential Exteriors.
The 3,500 square-foot home was in need of a new roof and the homeowners had been interested in solar roofing to increase energy savings. Having attended a CertainTeed demonstration of the Apollo system, Residential Exteriors recommended the product due to its ease of integrating with an existing roof.
“The homeowner originally wanted to replace the roof with traditional shingles, but after being introduced to Apollo, they were very excited to incorporate the solar system into their existing roof,” said Nick Kazolias, president of Residential Exteriors. “This was our first time working with the system and we, along with the homeowners, were more than pleased with the end results.”
With high performance polycrystalline panels, Apollo is lightweight, durable, resistant to wind uplift, and can easily be integrated into either an existing roof or with the installation of a new roof that combines solar panels and asphalt shingles.
Unlike rack-mounted solar systems, Apollo fully aligns with roofing shingles for a clean, seamless appearance. Each slim, 12-pound module features 14 high-efficiency polycrystalline silicon solar cells that absorb sunlight and converts it into electricity. Its lightweight design does not require structural reinforcement or evaluation, making it easier for contractors to install while maintaining roof deck integrity.
“All in all, the project took about a week to complete. I was very excited to work with Apollo for the first time and I truly believe it is the future of the industry,” added Kazolias.
The Apollo system is offered in pre-engineered kits containing all components necessary for installation. Apollo modules are Class A fire rated and meet UL 1703 requirements. The product qualifies for a 30% federal tax credit and may be eligible for state rebates and incentives.
