Showcasing ideas in innovative and energy-efficient design, CertainTeed Insulation has teamed up for a second year with Philadelphia University to participate in the ISOVER Multi-Comfort House Renovation Competition. The competition, organized by Saint-Gobain ISOVER in Paris, a sister company of CertainTeed, challenges students to design or renovate a building according to the Multi-Comfort concept, a design that reduces energy use by 75%. The key objective of the Multi-Comfort approach is to incorporate thermal performance, acoustic comfort and fire protection to build residential and non-residential buildings without conventional heating or cooling systems. Buildings and homes call for higher levels of insulation than conventional methods and are heated by passive means such as solar radiation through the windows and the heat produced by occupants and appliances. The Multi-Comfort competition is an excellent complement to the robust architecture and sustainable design programmes at Philadelphia University, says Robert Brockman, marketing manager for CertainTeed Insulation. Through our partnership, we are collectively developing forward-thinking solutions that result in healthy, comfortable, energy-efficient homes and buildings. The team consists of architecture students Christopher Anderson, David Cremer and Daniel Hitchko. The students represented the US in Innsbruck, Austria where 16 different countries submitted their designs. The future of architecture and design is changing drastically due to environmental changes and advancements in building technology. It“s important for us to work with businesses, like CertainTeed, that share our passion for innovative and energy-efficient design, said Robert Fryer, assistant professor of architecture at Philadelphia University. The architecture and sustainable design programmes at Philadelphia University are preparing the next generation of architects for the complex projects that will demand ground breaking, inventive ideas and ultimately provide a healthier environment. CertainTeed offers a comprehensive line of insulation products and equipment, including time-tested and trusted fiberglass insulation batts and rolls, fiberglass blow-in insulation, polyurethane spray foam, innovative vapor retarder technology, and highly regarded HVAC products. The newest addition, Sustainable Insulation, is created with the entire life cycle in mind for increased sustainability. All of CertainTeed“s insulation products can help building professionals qualify toward credits for both the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) through the U.S. Green Building Council and the National Association of Home Builders“ Green Building Program.
