German Centrosolar Glas GmbH & Co. KG has announced that it has set up its first AR coating line for photovoltaic modules in Asia. The coating will be produced at a partner company, which has been operating a glass melting furnace there on behalf of Centrosolar since 2009. Centrosolar currently exports AR glass grades from its production plant in Frth, Germany, to destinations such as the US and the Far East. However, according to the company, it has not yet been possible to adequately“ tap the market potential in Asia due to high shipping costs. The new production line, with an annual capacity of 1.8 million sq.m., will now be able to supply Centrosolar“s product to customers in the Far East with immediate effect“. The company adds that there are no plans for imports into Europe, which will continue to be supplied by its Frth plant. Alexander Kirsch, Centrosolar management board chairman, commented: “The Asian market has become a very interesting prospect for our solar glass business. But in the long run it simply doesn“t make sense to ship coated panes of glass across the oceans. “We are now much closer to our Asian customers. The partnership with a well-known, reliable partner for raw-glass production offers further advantages in terms of quality and costs.”
