Experts at Japan“s Yamaichi Research Institute have said that they expect parent current profits at Central Glass Co. Ltd. to be much bigger than the company“s own forecast. Yamaichi economists expect profits of about JPY 3.8 billion for the year-to-end March 1996 against the company“s own forecast of JPY 2.5 billion, as stated in Glass-Technology International No.1-96, reflecting the good sales performance of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., a major buyer of the company“s automobile glass. Ford Motor Co. of Dearborn, Michigan, US, has sold its 49% interest in the Carlex Glass Co. of Vonore, Tennessee, US, to its partner Central Glass in the joint venture. Carlex will continue production and sales from a 350,000 sq. ft. facility. Ford is also holding discussions with potential investors in its glass division, which has manufacturing plants in Dearborn, Michigan, Nashville, Tennessee, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and in Juarez, Mexico.
