13 May 1999: Carl Zeiss of Oberkochen, Germany and US company Thermo Instruments Systems Inc. of Dayton, Ohio are planning to establish a joint venture for geographical data equipment and systems. The company is to go into operation in July or August. The venture will be managed and majority owned by Swedish Thermo subsidiary Spectra Precision AB. Via its subsidiary Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH (Jena), the Zeiss group is contributing a volume of turnover of DM 40 million. Spectra Precision has turnover of DM 400 million. For Carl Zeiss, the agreement improves its international position.
