Adept Technology, Inc., a leading manufacturer of flexible automation for the telecommunications, fiber optic and semiconductor industries, announced today, 27 April that, as part of an OEM agreement, Adept will provide German optical glass producer Carl Zeiss IMT GmbH, a division of the Carl Zeiss Group, with an OEM version of SILMA Virtual CMM. Virtual CMM software can be used in place of the real CMM hardware to add state-of-the-art CAD-based programming to existing CMM software without the need to retrain CMM operators and programmers. Virtual CMM can be seen at the Quality Expo (booth no. 12090) which opens today in Chicago, Illinois. “Virtual CMM transforms the world-class Carl Zeiss Calypso, HOLOS, and UMESS-UX metrology software into powerful state-of-the-art 3-D CAD-based CMM programming tools that fit transparently into existing shop floor processes,” said Eric Jacobs, director of product marketing for Adept“s SILMA division. “Virtual CMM is the least invasive means to bring the benefits of paperless CAD-based programming and concurrent engineering to the shop floor-manufacturers of all sizes, which can now adopt the latest methods for inspection process improvement with minimal risk.”
