A provisional anti-dumping duty ranging from 24.65 to 52.97 percent will apply to imports of glass containers from Chinese producers from September 9, 2026.
The TRA’s findings mark a significant milestone for the UK glass manufacturing sector and represent an important step towards restoring fair competition in the market. The investigations examined concerns raised by UK manufacturers that glass containers imported from China were being sold into the UK at unfairly low prices, placing pressure on domestic producers.
Commenting on the provisional measures, Paul Pearcy, Energy and Industry director of British Glass, said, “We welcome the Secretary of State’s decision and provisional measures on container glass imports from China and the thorough, evidence-based approach taken throughout these investigations by the Trade Remedies Authority.

“A successful industrial strategy requires a competitive domestic manufacturing sector. Effective trade remedies are an important part of that framework, ensuring that UK manufacturers can compete fairly, invest with confidence and contribute to the Government’s objectives for growth, productivity and economic resilience.”
British Glass believes the preliminary determinations send a strong signal of support for UK manufacturing and highlight the importance of maintaining fair trading conditions for strategic foundation industries.

A decision on potential provisional measures on container imports from Turkey is yet to be announced.
