According to a report, Colette Dessaint, mayor of Masnires, located in northern France, was admitted to hospital on June 8 after being on a hunger strike for 17 days. Dessaint, who received support over the phone from French Employment and Solidarity Minister Martine Aubry, started her hunger strike in protest against the redundancy of 223 of the 650 workers of the local glassworks Bormioli-Rocco.
