Atofina Chemicals, Inc. said in a recent press release that following the merger of TotalFina and Elf Aquitaine earlier this year, the chemical operation of the company would be renamed Atofina. Elf Atochem North America therefore becomes Atofina Chemicals, Inc. Bernard Azoulay, president and CEO of Atofina Chemicals, Inc., said “We are confident that the creation of the new Atofina group will open up growth prospects for our company and will allow us to better meet the challenges of the competitive chemical industry”. The firm, which employs 4,000 people and has sales of US$ 1.8 billion, will keep its headquarters in Philadelphia. Its product range includes intermediate and fine chemicals, performance polymers and performance chemicals. The firm has 24 manufacturing plants in the US, 2 in Canada (Atofina Canada, Inc.) and one in Mexico. Atofina, whose worldwide headquarters are located in Paris, France, is now the fifth largest chemical company in the world with sales of US$ 17 billion. Atofina employs over 70,000 people worldwide.
