The chief executive of Pakistan General, Pervez Musharraf, inaugurated a polyvinyl chloride resin manufacturing plant recently at Port Qasim, 50 kilometers from Karachi. The joint venture of Engro Chemicals Pakistan Ltd. (50%) and Japanese companies Asahi Glass (20%) and Mitsubishi (20%) is set to cost US$ 80-million, a release from Engro Asahi Polymer and Chemicals Ltd. said. Asad Omar, an official of EAPCL, said that the JV also plans to make vinyl chloride monomer, the raw material used to manufacture PVC resin. He said the plant has an installed capacity to produce 100,000 metres per year of PVC.
