The Mexican authority on foreign investment has reported that Asahi Glass of Japan, Corning of the US, and the South Korean Samsung Group, are to invest US$ 250 million in a local joint venture. It is expected that a giant glass factory will be built along the Baja California border to supply electronic industries. The Mexican authority has suggested Mexicali or Tijuana as possible locations. Staffing could reach 5,000 people and mainstay products would be glass for computer and TV screens. The Mexican minister of commerce and industrial development met with Asahi Glass upper management on a recent trip to Japan.
