Arabian United Float Glass Company: first carbon neutral company in Yanbu

AUFGC is taking the first steps to reduce its impact on the environment. It has engaged an international carbon management consultancy to conduct a carbon footprint assessment.

The Arabian United Float Glass Company (AUFGC), the first independent float line in the Middle East and Africa, has committed to taking the first steps to implementing a strategic approach to reducing its impact on the environment and engaged the services of Carbon-Expert, an international carbon management consultancy, to conduct a carbon footprint assessment.
Based in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, AUFGC uses state-of-the-art technology to produce clear and tinted glass in different qualities ranging from architectural to automotive and mirror applications, with products such as Aralux clear and Aralux LG sold all over the globe in 80 countries.
Continuous Improvement & New Developments Manager at AUFGC, Madhu Kuttanchery Madhavan said: “AUFGC is a part of a large industrial park in Yanbu. Light & heavy industries coexist here and are interdependent for energy, utility gases and water though self reliant in their own operation. Therefore we recognize our part in an overall commitment to alleviate environmental impact. It is very important to understand an environmental footprint to find our position and possibly to track down the effect of initiatives already taken. The carbon footprint assessment by Carbon-Expert will definitely help us with this and also inspire us to discover untapped dimensions.”
Moya McKeown, Business Development Manager at Carbon-Expert said: “Businesses can gain a strong strategic advantage, generate more business value and cut costs, by firstly understanding their current carbon position, taking action to reduce carbon emissions through good practice and the implementation of a carbon management policy, and achieve zero net carbon by offsetting residual carbon emissions. Businesses worldwide recognize that, offsetting provides them with a real opportunity to meet their carbon neutral objective and take full responsibility of their environmental impact.”
