According to a recent report, a petition has been lodged with India“s Ministry of Commerce by the All India Glass Manufacturers Federation (AIGMF) for the removal of the country“s provisional anti-dumping duties on soda ash imported from China. The request is based on a study which claims that the capacity utilization rates of most of India“s soda ash producers have increased and that all but one of the companies remains profitable, the report said. In the year ended March 1999, a 2% increase in operating rate to 87% was made by DCW, a 12% increase to 83% was made by Birla VXL, and a 2% increase to 98% was made by Tuticorin Alkalis. There was a 2% drop in operating rates by Gujarat Heavy Chemicals to 94%.
