Australian container glass manufacturer ACI has speeded up expansion of its Adelaide wine bottle plant. The company“s new A$ 120 million furnace is scheduled to be in partial operation by December 2001, six months earlier than planned. It is expected to be at full capacity in the first quarter of 2002. Rival Amcor“s new purpose-built A$ 130 million plant is due for completion in mid-2002. The new furnace will increase the plant“s capacity by around 250 million bottles, or 30%, taking total ACI wine bottle production, including capacity at other plants, to more than one billion.
