Glass is made from raw materials such as quartz sand, soda, limestone, dolomite and feldspar, as well as recycled glass (cullet). Increasing the recycled content reduces energy demand during production and lowers the need for raw materials.
How does Vetropack manage raw materials?
- Increasing the share of recycled glass (cullet) to lower the use of primary raw materials.
- A sound cullet sourcing strategy helps secure sufficient high quality recycled glass for new glass containers
- Circular design approaches such as right-weighting and light-weighting help reduce raw material demand.
- Vetropack optimises production processes through the Groupwide Performance Improvement Programme (PIP) to improve resource efficiency.
While raw materials are crucial for glass production, increasing recycled content and improving resource efficiency are key to reducing environmental impacts.
