ZAO Yelizovo Glassworks, a Belarusian-Austrian enterprise at Yelizovo near Osipovichi, in the Mogilyov region, has begun output of narrow-necked amber beer bottles. The manufacturer has thus become the first company in the country to make such bottles, said director-general Vladimir Shchegelsky. A new furnace was installed at the glassworks within the framework of a larger modernization project. It was fired up during a visit by Belarusian leader Aleksandr Lukashenko to the Osipovichi district in February 2006. In May, the beer bottle plant began operating at full capacity, according to Mr. Shchegelsky. ZAO Yelizovo Glassworks reportedly made around 300 million glass jars of various sizes in 2005. In 2006 it is expected to make up to 450 million pieces of glassware. The new product will be sold to both domestic and foreign brewers. The first shipment has already been sent to a Baltic client. ZAO Yelizovo Glassworks is certified to the ISO 9001 quality management standard and the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) standard.
