World’s largest measuring cup on display at CMOG

The cup stands four feet tall and holds approximately 3,040 cups.

Don’t let the numbers on the measuring cup fool you.

The “16 ounce” Pyrex measuring cup holds the Guinness World Record for being the largest measuring cup in the world, and it is on display at Corning Museum of Glass for one day only.

Members of the museum got a sneak peak of the record-breaking glassware Friday, a day before the free mobile exhibit opens to the public. The Pyrex exhibit as well as the record-breaking measuring cup will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Rakow Research Library at the Corning Museum of Glass.

“It’s very unique. I am interested in the construction of the measuring cup, and how they put it together,” Bill Hallinan said. The Painted Post resident’s curiosity stems from his background in manufacturing.

Hallinan was one of several hundred guests who attended the mobile tour at The Rakow Research Library in the Corning museum.

“I think it’s a little larger than what I’d use in the kitchen,” Hallinan joked.

The cup stands four feet tall and holds approximately 3,040 cups. At a weight of 80 pounds – including a 15-pound lid – it is approximately 1,500 times larger than Pyrex’s top selling, two-cup measuring cup. The span between the tip to handle is 5.83 feet.

The cup was created by Pyrex owner World Kitchen in honor of the the brand turning 100 years old. The measuring cup was certified by the official record keepers March 8 in Chicago,
