Luxury crystal and porcelain manufacturer Waterford Wedgwood said that the Christmas 2006 shopping period saw strong retail sales performance by its major brands in key markets. In a trading statement on 5 January 2007, Waterford Wedgwood chief executive Peter Cameron said it was the group“s best Christmas for sales in five years. In the statement the group said that while its year-to-date sales from 1 April 2006 were broadly in-line with the same period of the previous year, its December 2006 sales performance was very encouraging. Wedgwood said sales of Waterford Crystal in major US department stores were up 6% on the previous year, and sales of Wedgwood were 10% higher. Sales of Waterford Crystal by department chains in Ireland and the UK were 8% higher, and sales of Wedgwood were 13% higher.
