The intervention of the Venezuelan Ministry of Employment facilitated the return to work at Vidrios Venezolanos Extras (Vivex) on 13 December 2006 after a nine-day stoppage in protest at a lapsed contract and other grievances. However, normal activity has not been resumed at the plant because of the length of the strike and local vehicle assemblers are considering the imposition of collective holidays for staff. Contract negotiations at Vivex will resume on 20 December 2006. The firm is the main producer of autoglass in Venezuela.
