A ground-breaking ceremony was held for the construction of a USD 145 million Vietnam-Japan joint venture flat glass plant in My Xuan A industrial zone, southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province on 9 January 2006. The Vietnam Glass Factory, a joint venture between Japan“s Nippon Sheet Glass Co. Ltd (NSG) and the Construction Materials Corporation No.1 of Vietnam, will be built on a 30 hectare site, with NSG contributing 70% of the investment. The factory, with a design capacity equivalent to 28 million square meters of 2 mm thick flat glass a year, is expected to start operation in around 10 months. The plant is the second NSG-invested float glass project in Vietnam, following a project located in the north of the country, and will produce high-quality float glass products. The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by Tran Minh Sanh, Chairman of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau People“s Committee, and Osamu Shiozaki, Japanese Consul-General in Ho Chi Minh City.
