Spanish container glass manufacturer Vidrala said 1 September 2006 that for the first half of the year its net profit increased 7.27% to EUR 13.8 million. Sales for the period rose 8.8% to EUR 158.76 million, production volume was 6% higher, while EBIT was down 4.55% compared to the 1H 2005 to EUR 21.3 million. The company was pleased at the progress achieved in the face of rising costs. Production and distribution costs were 10.57% higher, reflecting the rises in prices for energy, transport and raw materials. The workforce was almost unchanged at 1,365, compared to 1,354 in the 1H 2005.
