4 June 1998: German diversified utility Viag AG recently forecast sales and profit growth this year in its chemicals, logistics and packaging units. The chemicals division, which includes SKW Trostberg AG and Goldschmidt AG, would see 1998 sales surpass DM 10 billion (US$ 5.6 billion), Viag chief Executive Georg Obermeier said at a news conference. Both specialty chemical makers were expected to report “pleasing” profit for the year. Logistics unit Kloeckner & Co would also have sales of more than DM 10 million. This total would not include Computer 2000 AG , the PC distributor that Kloeckner has reportedly agreed to sell to Tech Data Corp . In packaging, aluminium unit VAW “stands on the verge of a growth phase after years of consolidation,” Obermeier said.
