Croatian glass packaging maker Vetropack Straza has put into operation a HRK 151 million (USD 32 million/EUR 20.8 million) glass furnace, according to the Ministry of Economy, Labour and Entrepreneurship. Secretary of state Leo Begovic inaugurated the glass furnace, which has a capacity of 230 tonnes per day and three production lines, on 17 June 2008, the Ministry said in a statement. Vetropack Straa d.d., located in the town of Hum na Sutli on the Croatian-Slovenian border, has been part of Vetropack Group since 1996. The company supplies the domestic market, but also exports to Slovenia, Italy, Hungary, Bosnia, Serbia and other countries in south-eastern Europe. In 2006 it increased output by 0.7% to 216,451 tonnes. The Vetropack Group, which offers a variety of glass packaging products to the beverage and food industry, employs a staff of 3,100. It has a total of seventeen melting furnaces at seven different production sites with an aggregate production capacity of more than 4,000 tonnes per day.
